Ruabon - Circa 1831


Ruabon, a township in the parish of its name, in hundred of barony of Broomfield, and county of Denbigh. It is situate upon a rivulet that discharges itself into the River Dee, north-west of the county of Salop, abounding with Iron and Coal. Distance from London, 182 miles N.W.; from Llangollen 6 W. by N.; from Chester 15 S.W.; from Manchester 54 S. W. and 5 miles from Wrexham. The church is spacious, containing an organ, the gift of Sir Watkin Wynn, to whom it bears a faithful resemblance  - it is an excellent specimen of sculpture by Rysback.

The living is a Vicarage in the patronage of the Bishop of St. Asaph. The Parish of Ruabon, comprising the townships of Christwnydd, Desschnlle, Isa, and Urscha, Morton above and below. Ruabon, contained, in 1831, 8,353 inhabitants.
